Vidiowiki

Vidiowiki (vidiowiki.com) is a project based in the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics which aims to help academics distribute research in an engaging format without miscommunication and is also used to identify potentially useful cross-overs between disciplines.

Users can navigate a mind map on Vidiowiki to identify links between research, then watch short 'research trailers' on subjects which interest them.

When they find topics they would like to understand in greater detail they can click on links to the back-up research and spend as much time as they like understanding the subject. >> see an example

Through regular commentary in a given field of expertise, Vidiowiki can be used to build a solid reputation as well as being a good repository for papers and other resources.

Vidiowiki 'research trailers' can be created with a web camera and so researched don't need any specialised equipment or technical skills.

Vidiowiki helps in public engagement activities by allowing academics to reach a curious, respectful audience whilst maintaining control of the way in which their research is portrayed.
