Science on the Street is a resource is funded by The Wellcome Trust and aims to encourage conversation about key scientific issues in public spaces, involving members of the public.
The 'discussion stalls' are well suited for use on the floor of busy public venues such as science centres and museums, as well as at outreach events.
The details are here: http://scienceonthestreet.wordpress.com/
The website has sections on 'giving information', 'gathering views' (including 14 tips to collect data, eg; using flags, pictures, ping pong balls), and how to make your stall attract people and help make their experience fun and fulfilling.
There is also a section written by the project's expert social scientists giving information on 'How robust are the results'.
And finally... NEF has the rather lovely strapline 'Economics as if people and the planet mattered' and more information on them is at http://www.neweconomics.org/
