Inspace is the University of Edinburgh's new media gallery at the School of Informatics. The gallery is a public engagement venue where people can explore the cultural significance of informatics through events, exhibitions, and direct engagement with researchers working in the gallery.
Each season at Inspace, we consider a different theme for all the research and activities. Anyone can propose a future theme and all suggestions are submitted anonymously. Each quarter, the different programme thematics are released, enabling research, production, education and outreach activity. The Inspace team seeks engagement with Informatics researchers and new media artists and we welcome proposals for collaborative engagement with researchers keen to work with us on the thematic areas. During research and exploration times, the gallery becomes a working space for researchers and artists exploring the seasonal thematic. Public access focuses on our regular events, such as the lively neuroscience research Encounters or the electronic music Dialogues and occasional experiments where artists can explore new media practice in the gallery in 48 hours. Each season culminates in an exhibition which presents research outputs and artworks and linked events.
