Public Engagement Competency Tables

Public engagement covers such a broad range of activities that a diverse set of skills are required. To make this easier to visualise, the tables below focus on the skills required for delivering public engagement and the skills required for managing public engagement. The columns refer to a particular area and the rows distinguish between the types of engagement activity. In the boxes, we've listed some examples (not a definitive list) to give you an flavour of the different situations where you would use those skills.

Important things to consider when using the tables:

  1. You don't have to be good at or interested in all the boxes in the table. Just focus on the areas of interest to you.
  2. Each box covers an important and valued part of public engagement. Don't feel you have to cover everything or work your way down a column.
